BACKGROUND
International Conferences on Mechanics in Medicine and Biology (ICMMB) consist of a series of biennal scientific meetings organized in order to present the results of interdisciplinary research concerning engineering, medicine and biology. The idea was conceived in 1977 among a group of researchers from various countries. The conferences were successively organized in Europe, Asia and America. The first conference was held in 1978 in Aachen (Germany), and the successive ones in Osaka (Japan), Compiogn (France), Buffalo (USA), Portschach (Austria), Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Honolulu (Hawaii), Tainan (Taiwan), Lemnos Island (Greece), Bologna (Italy), Singapore, Pittsburgh (USA).
